Hope First
The resurrection wasn't easily embraced in Corinth. The belief structure in Greece was that the body was evil and the soul was good.
The soul essentially endured having a body, but was set free from the body at death. There was no concept or desire for a post-death bodily resurrection.
Why would a soul want a body? There was no future purpose or existence for a body, and no reason for a resurrection.
This was the common belief among philosophers, in the streets and at the kitchen tables. Today, evolution and scientific naturalism argue that this life and existence is all there is. In a scientific worldview, there is nothing beyond our reality. There is supernatural.
Don’t even talk about a miracle. The Greeks believed in the afterlife, but it was a spiritual existence only. So Greek dualism and our modern naturalism come to the same conclusion about the body
– there’s no future for it. As Pastor Steve takes us deeply into 1 Corinthians 15, he will take us through the most extensive teaching on the resurrection in the Bible. We will see why we can hope for both today and eternity
Hope First Series
Our resource this month is Pastor Steve's book Loneliness: Don't Hate it, or Waste it. Redeem it.
In a time when loneliness is at an all-time high, this book—rich with biblical truth and practical help—speaks to all hearts. DeWitt explores the invitation of Jesus when our hearts feel alone and isolated. Writing on topics that affect us and the ones we love—such as loneliness and the gospel, loneliness and singleness, loneliness and marriage, and loneliness and leadership—he shows us the way out of our pain and into relational flourishing with God and others.
Loneliness can be the path God uses for our souls to experience the presence, promises, and power of Jesus Christ. Join Pastor Steve on a journey out of the ache and into love in his new book Loneliness.
We want to send you Loneliness: Don't Hate it, or Waste it. Redeem it as our way of saying “Thank you!” when you make a donation during the month of November.
